Universal love and God consciousness
Love of God. In our movement, we consider love of God is the highest achievement. That we have achieved. And so for harmony, even we are innocently preaching God consciousness, there are so many enemies with this terror.
Oh, all the time. The demons, all the time. At Hollywood Boulevard, Divine Grace, I was there this morning and there were so many demoniac elements. But if they had God consciousness, there would be... I could be happy.
But it's just so demoniac, so vicious. People are just, just unhappy. No one's happy. Nobody's happy. So there is disturbance. We are preaching love of God. Still there, we are going to anything. So this world is like that.
It is very difficult to bring a harmony. But if we make people God conscious, lovers of God, then there is. But not all of them can be lovers of God.
But if a percentage of the people become lovers of God, then there will be great value in every respect that we said. There is love of God in everyone. Everyone starts.
By process it can be awakened, because we are all part and parcel of the Lord. The internal latency. It is now forgotten. But it can be awakened. This is our thing. So we do not make any sectarian propaganda.
Whatever sect you may belong, we want to see that you are a lover of God. We have got our loving propensity. We love our country, we love our society, we love our fellow men. At least we love some dog.
That loving propensity is there. But it is being misplaced. If the loving propensities which we use are for God, then I mean partial love will not help that. It's like there is a tree.
If you put water on the leaf, it will not help. There are millions of leaves in the tree. If you go on putting water in each leaf, it will take so much time; still, it will be incomplete.
But if you pour water on this root, it is all. So somebody is loving his family, his wife, his children; somebody is loving community; somebody is loving sex; somebody having his religion, his nation.
But all these are partial. When one loves God, this loving propensity will automatically... So we are teaching people how to love God. This is Kṛṣṇa consciousness.
Practical training and family life
Oh yes, I'm very familiar with it. I've been, uh, using your products for some time now, for about four years. I've had the largest vegetarian restaurant in the, in the country for four years now; I use my program.
You had a vegetarian restaurant? Yeah. And he has been using our product in the restaurant. And he has been, uh... by the government there has been some tax liability, debt, which he did not have the funds for.
So they had to close, close up the restaurant. But the tax fund is not big, why? Because it was, uh... when business fell off, the money was used to continue to pay employees rather than paying the government. Come on.
Come on. Oh, that's it. And you can... Thank you very much. Come on. Do you like this? He was coming up the stairs and I asked him where he was going. He said, "I'm going up to see Śrīla Prabhupāda." And, uh... Nice block.
Oh, you are alone coming? Yes, he was just walking up the street. Right. Very nice. And he has learned how to offer obeisances. So many of the children... one little boy knows all of the Īśopaniṣad mantras.
He knows also all of, uh, your spiritual master's. He goes, "Oṁ namo..." like that, chant all the mantras. You know mantra? You know some mantra? Can he chant? Hare Kṛṣṇa. Pushti, Krishna. Hare, Hare. Hare. How are you? Hello.
I am... Oh, I'm good, honey. Mm-hmm. Very good. Very well. Anything more? Anything more? I don't know if you could push my face and look at the carbon. So nice. Thank you.
He remembered, he knows something about Bhīṣma, Bhīṣma, for the fight, for the blessing. You are so nice. Very nice. You come every day, I shall give you prasāda.
So these children are learning mantras, dancing, offering obeisances. We have got a school in Dallas, all small children. They're being trained in Krishna. You can dance? Please dance. Let me see. What is in there?
I can see, honestly. Uh yeah, uh, yes, I'll be to think. I think three years old. Three years old. Huh? Mommy has to make me a beads bag and a and some beads. You want?
Mommy, my mommy has to make me a beads bag and a and some beads. Oh, where is that? Huh? Where is that beads bag? Because somebody with a beads bag... Somebody took his beads bag. Mommy is making her. Thank you.
Yeah, I need that for... Oh. Being trained up. So nice. Every morning they run all over the neighborhood and pick the flowers and come and throw them out of the audience and bow down and pay their obeisances. So nice.
Chanting, dancing in front of the Deities. Gr̥he tiṣṭhati... yes, all. Pūrvābhyāsena. Śucīnāṁ śrīmatāṁ gehe yoga-bhraṣṭo 'bhijāyate. Yoga-bhraṣṭaḥ. In his past life he was a yogī. Therefore, he has got this opportunity.
From his very birth, he is practicing Krishna consciousness. Now, if his parents take care, then in this life he becomes successful, back to home, back to Godhead.
This is the duty of the parents, of the state, of the guru, to help you. You said at one time that we've all had association with Lord Caitanya.
And then another time you said that our coming to Krishna consciousness was no pious activity on our own, but it was due to our good fortune in coming across, coming in contact with a pure devotee.
I don't understand that. Have we had association of Lord Caitanya in our previous lives, and what kind of association we have? For I say we have association of Lord Caitanya. I don't think we say that. Did you say that?
Someone many times said Śrīla Prabhupāda said we are all eternal associates of Lord Caitanya. Isn't that true? Things which people ask me, I heard that someone asked for our propensity.
And generally those who are, as you see, taking up... They also come to help this movement. That is also not illegal to think. Caitanya Mahāprabhu's associates means their business is to preach Krishna bhakti.
So by the order of Caitanya Mahāprabhu, they will come. By the order of Krishna, by the order of Caitanya Mahāprabhu.
Just like all the members of the Yadu dynasty, if they came to assist Krishna, they came from heavenly planets, very godly. Sometimes to Prabhupāda, Caitanya Mahāprabhu's nitya-siddhas... Yes, pañca-tattva.
Śrīvāsa-paṇḍita is incarnation of Nārada. Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya, Prabhu Nityānanda, Śrī Advaita, Gadādhara, Śrīvāsa. Śrīvāsa is an incarnation of Nārada. So to assist Caitanya Mahāprabhu and Nārada...
And Brahmā came as Haridāsa. Yeah. His name is Brahmā-Haridāsa. There is a list of names. Gaura-gaṇoddeśa-dīpikā. So all the associates of Mahāprabhu are described. Who is who? Rāmānanda is Arjuna. Arjuna.
And Gadādhara is Rādhārāṇī. And Advaita is Mahā-Viṣṇu. Śrīvāsa is Nārada Muni. And Śrī Caitanya is Viṣṇu, Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa. Sarva-deva. Yes.
A long time ago, I believe you were saying that some of your disciples, such as Viṣṇujana Mahārāja, Gargamuni Mahārāja, and Brahmānanda Mahārāja, were all came to aid in what Caitanya's movement is for.
So this is not true? Or is it true? Yes, that's true. Is it true? Everyone is everything. You are the most foolish. The most foolish. You are a great fool. I have a personal question to ask you.
Should I ask you personally or would you prefer me to ask you now? The proper time. Why do you ask that? Well, it was about getting... I have been thinking very seriously about getting married.
I'm having a very hard time with brahmacarya. And I've been thinking, you know, very seriously about trying gṛhastha life in this time of life. Why?
It's been very... well, I've been having a very difficult time with brahmacarya. I haven't actually... I haven't been very happy as a brahmacārī.
And I need some inspiration, and I seem to feel that maybe by making a change... maybe this is māyā. It is a dictation of māyā. No one is happy being married. If you marry, then you'll be unhappy.
Marry, it is after your choice. Whatever you marry. If you marry, you'll be unhappy. I have to sort of get it out of my system. Whatever you like, you do. But I say if you want to come...
But if I, if I, if I do get married, if, if I do get married, do I still... I still have your... Well, my blessings are not taken. I say don't marry. Don't make me responsible.
When you become unhappy, you don't make me happy. I say maybe if you marry, you'll be unhappy. I believe you. Of course I believe you. I know that now, if you want to become unhappy... This
seems like... I know that reading Prahlāda Mahārāja, Prahlāda listened to his spiritual master and he received the experience through his guru, you know, rather than to try to experience from self, unhappy.
So if you don't take the experience of your guru, then what can be done?
You don't take the experience of your guru. It's like, uh, wanting to finish, wanting to get sort of to experience everything before completely renouncing, uh, material life.
You know, just get it out, getting everything out of your system once and for all. But I, I think if I was maybe forty-five, I, I wouldn't care so much about gṛhastha life, but at my relatively young
age... So do you do it? Why are you asking me? I say that if you marry, you'll be unhappy. Now it is up to you to make decision. I don't want you angry at me. There's no angry. I say what is bad.
Do you think if, do you think if I'm, if I'm very sincere and very, very serious, I can advance spiritually if I do get married, if I follow the principles that... You may be sincere. The other party may not be sincere.
What if I make the party sincere? And I'll do in your favor. Oh, I'm not trying to argue, please, I've answered. I just... No, I have given my opinion. Now you make decision. Don't make me responsible. Oh, of course not.
You, you ask my consultation, I gave it. Now it is up to you. I recommend you to become a sannyāsī. You
Spiritual strength and divine identity
think, you think I'm strong enough to be a sannyāsī? I like if you are not strong and be strong. But with your blessing, maybe you'll make me a mahārathi. Just like Bhīma, Jarāsandha and Yudhiṣṭhira.
So if you follow my instruction, then you'll be a mahārathi. If you don't follow my instruction, I will tell you, Mahārāja. So if I follow your instructions, you'll make me all right. Yes.
I want to become fully Krishna conscious as well. But sometimes māyā is very strong. Māyā is strong only if you are weak in Krishna. There's like infection is there when the body is, body's susceptibility is weak.
There is some infectious disease. One is attacked with the disease, other is not; that means one is weak in his susceptibility, he is attacked. Similarly, māyā is a... one who is not sufficiently powerful, he is attacked.
Mām eva ye prapadyante māyām etāṁ taranti te. One who is complete surrendered to Krishna. Is that effective?
I was reading English Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, and by grace when I was in, when I was in Māyāpur, Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī said to achieve love of God, one should be absorbed in the cit potency of the Lord and be willing to serve the Lord, and one can achieve love of God.
So if one is always thinking of Krishna, always speaking about Krishna, always hearing about Krishna, always looking at pictures of Krishna, using the nose to smell nice flowers to Krishna, eating Krishna prasāda...
Then māyā cannot attack. Māyā cannot attack if we're always absorbed in Krishna. Yes, we're so foolish. We see that that is so nice.
But then we'll see something that we think is nice and we'll continue to think about that, like a pretty girl or a nice scene or something like that.
We see when we talk about Krishna, when we read Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, when we intend already to listen to your lectures, it is so nice. The mind will bring in this other object and it is so hard to get it out.
The best thing is that you take sannyāsa and preach very good. It is a thing, very pleasant moment, we are very strong. Then you wait for some time. And my idea that she might... Or just like normally go everywhere? Yeah.
Every place is God's place. So wherever you go, we we do not take it: this is America, this is India, this is Germany. We take everything belongs to Krishna. We don't make this demarcation. This is all man's demarcation.
It's like this American land. It was not formerly belonging to the present people. It was staying lying there. Similarly, everything is God's. Now we have made this demarcation. It is my land. And that is our illusion.
We are claiming the property of God as ours. This is mine. And one who understands that this is Krishna's property, God's property, he's out of māyā. I understand that. That's very simple, easy to understand.
Also easy to understand that we're spirit soul, we're not this body. I say: my hand, my nose, my eyes, my hand. I don't say: I nose. I'm not the nose. I'm not the hair. I'm not the legs.
So the 'I' and 'mine'—the whole material world is under the 'I' and 'mine'. False conception of life. Living under this illusion: I and mine. Think false property should have a false identity. No. This is 'I am God's'. Very...
I am Krishna's. But everything belongs to Krishna. So I also belong to Krishna. Therefore, I am Krishna's. I am God's. That is my identity. But they are making 'I am God'.
These fools are asking people, they are making 'I am God'. He hesitates to speak, 'I am God's'. The 'I' is there. The 'I' is there, that is—I must be there because I am law of identity. I am something.
But the difficulty is that he is misidentified that "I am God." Actually his position is, "I am God's." I am not God, but I am God's. Although there is no difference between God's and God. Spirit is one, individual.
There is no difference. It's like my finger and my body, whole body. There is no difference. I can say this finger is also my body.
But the explanation is more, uh, clear when I say that my finger is part and parcel. Similarly, Krishna says, "Mamaivāṁśo..." All the living entities, they are My part and parcel. The
part and parcel is not different from the whole. The same. If I cut here, my body, there will be blood, and if I cut here, the same blood. So in that sense, there is no difference between this finger and the whole body.
And still, the finger is not the whole body. This is acintya-bhedābheda, simultaneously one and different, inconceivable. God's state.
What is "tat tvam asi"? Here, trying to raise... many of the persons, they use "tat tvam asi". "Thou art God," or something like that. I'm not familiar with that. Just like if I say that, "You are also American."
So the President is American. You are "tat tvam asi", right. You are of the same stock. The President is on some time, and you are on some time. If I say you are also that, does not mean that you are also President.
That is foolishness. Fools take it like, "I'm American, that's why I'm President." This is a fool's conclusion. You have got every right to say, "I am as I am, a President." That's fine. That is your identification.
Similarly, "tat tvam asi", "you are the same" means you are the same quality. Or you are in the same category. If you are God, then how you have become dog? How you have become under the pleasure of sense?
Therefore you may be God, just like you may be American, but you are not the supreme. Supreme American is the president because we are American. They are very... this is not right. Thank you, tapas.
So we say that these are skeletons. They do not know. Or they mislead people. It's like if you go to India, if you say, "I'm American, therefore I'm president of America." People in general are not such fools.
Some foolish people may believe. Huh? Foolish people may believe. That is no... that is not business. The intelligent people will say, "If you are president, what is your credential?"
Apart from pedagogy, I mean the messages go. So they have to present their credential.
Opulences and credentials of God
So these rascals, they do not know what is God, they accept anyone as God. All that glitters is not gold. Why do they accept everyone? Because they're rascals. Because they're rascals. Rascals.
They do not know. Suppose you do not know what is real gold. I can give you something glittering like gold. Just like our kartal, it looks like gold. If you make it shining, polished. And if I give it, "This is gold."
And if you do not know what is gold, then you accept. One who knows what is gold will not accept. So similarly, one who knows God will not accept any rascal as God. He knows what is God. We are teaching what is God.
Suppose if somebody comes, "I'm God." So I'm a believer. I've heard about Krishna. So I generally ask, "What you have done?" How Krishna lifted Govardhana hill? I say, "Me also." "Oh, what you have done?"
If you prove that, "Yes, I can do also." Krishna lifted Govardhana hill when He was seven years old. I'm now seventy years old. I can lift the whole world. And do it. Some accept this is an example.
God must do something incomparable. Because definition is there. He must be the richest. He must be the wisest. He must be the most famous. He must be most beautiful. So we have to test. Are you richer than everyone?
Ask him, claim to be God: "Are you richer than everyone in this world?" If he proves that, yes, he is richer than anyone, then we can accept. Are you the most beautiful? If proved, yes, then accept. And the wisest.
There are so many tests. Why should we accept any rascal as God? Every time you go against the will of God, we arrest God. That's the definition of the rest: he is going more and more to the hell.
One who defies God is going to hell. And actually, in today's world, we are all rascals. Yes. Because all rascals, therefore this preaching is required. Make them intelligent. That's why I say we can preach.
That is real service. To become another rascal is not very... You have seen so many people, and married, and they become rascals. Why are you going to become another rascal? I don't want to become another rascal.
You must be about to get married. As soon as you marry, he's having another responsibility. You know how much trouble you're having with yourself now? You'll have somebody else's troubles also. Yeah. That is a fact.
Austerity and reducing bodily necessities
Now you're free. You are moving free. And instead of a wife... Yeah, yeah. Oh, how my wife is that, and if she doesn't like it, that holds you.
What, what if, what, what if about—I'm not, I'm not using these as excuses, but I just have to get this out of my system. What about if I ask her, um, my dear friend, I want to, I want it to be agreed.
If I, if, if we don't, if this doesn't work, I want to be able to take something else. And she agreed with that. Or, or do they usually change the mind? That means you are talking like a rascal.
You are, you are, why you are, you want to make an experiment with asking. That is a problem. Well, don't we have nice philosophers in the room, or three? You cannot have that easy. They're all materialists.
Now you have the qualification for one. Life is difficult enough. Two lives is the street. No, two lives are there, are many, many married men, but nowadays the time is not very good.
Better to tolerate the onslaught of māyā. Māyā is tossing. He said that the māyā is always attacking the mind. But just, just don't, just keep going. Don't make that funny. Just keep that engaged.
So it is better to tolerate than to become under classes. You are freely moving. Is that not very nice? Like they have no responsibility for children, for wife, for all, nothing.
They're simply thinking of Krishna and moving. That's very nice. And Nārāyaṇa, the in one... Big Mahā thing. Big māyā play. Best distributor. Book distributors. That's one problem.
The best distributors, but people who distribute the most books, they get all the prasādam, which is so rich and agitates sex desire. So because he's every day, he's getting all the, all the, all the time that...
"You bring that prasādam to me." I said it. I would be glad to, but prasādam, the way they'd be cooking the prasādam these days, it wouldn't Uh, yeah, I feel that you'd be satisfied. No, you bring to me, I said that.
Last night at ten o'clock, someone came by with a huge plate of something, every uh, coarse thing, but don't give more than is... I wonder, uh, is that in program with Brahmā trying to so much?
No, no, Brahmā said he's given so much, but he should not give so much. Because I have been given so much. That's why he gave me so much. So what I require? We haven't yet already controlled access so well.
Anything, I didn't—don't do that. Right. If there is a night prasāda, keep it for taking tomorrow morning. Prayaniddha-hara-viharatati.
Vijitu, the more he'll forget eating, and sleeping, and mating, the more he has... This is what we require. Both things: body necessity— eating, sleeping, mating, and defending.
So as far as defending is concerned, Krishna is protecting. Unless Krishna protects you, you cannot save yourself by the utmost defense. And if Krishna saves you, if there is utmost danger, he is saved.
This is defense. So far as eating, sleeping, and sex, that should be reduced to nil. This is vairāgya. Vairāgya means that's like Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī. He was eating every alternate day a little buttermilk.
I mean, he was a very rich man's son. He was practiced to a very comfortable life. But when he became a vairāgī, renounced order, he was eating a little butter—not very— every alternative day.
And he was not only chanting, uh, keeping a numerical strength, he was offering obeisances just like this child offered. Daṇḍavat. Daṇḍavat means just like a rod. That was also with numerical count.
So many times I shall offer them, and so many times I shall chant, and I shall eat, and buttermilk every alternate day. And Rādhā-kuṇḍa. You've seen Rādhā-kuṇḍa? Yes. That is Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī.
And when he left home, his father had twelve hundred thousand gold coins. Twelve hundred thousand. And he was married with a very beautiful girl. A very rich man. And 500 years ago, 1,200,000 was income.
Nowadays, at least 50 times, 500 years, with the purchasing power of money decreasing. So he was such a rich man. And he reduced his necessities of life in such a way. So it depends on practice.
So you don't feel that some men would... it would help some men in this age, which is so fallen? But that this age is fallen, but the process is also simple. Dhruva Mahārāja went to the forest.
He lived by simply drinking air. First of all, fruits. Then water, then dry leaves, and then... Years ago. Five years old boy. And to go to the forest means to accept these austerities.
Aren't you instructing to the individuals, for the individuals? Our instruction is that we are so weak. We cannot imitate all this. That is nonsense. Yes, but if you give me instruction, I should take it for me.
And you can give him a different instruction. But that's what our... our instruction... but we cannot imitate. That is not possible in this day. That yukta-āhāra-vihārasya. Whatever possible.
Now in our temple, we are taking Kṛṣṇa-prasādam and advising that don't take more than you require, because it is little palatable, rice, halva, after this, that,
that's it. It will not do harm because it is Kṛṣṇa-prasādam, but it is not good. That is atyāhāra. To eat more than required, that's not good.
If you are getting the best prasādam, you can take whatever actually you need and balance it and distribute to others. The temple command is giving as you are, you take this, but we distribute your word.
Yes, you are discrimination. Human formal life is not to discriminate. So the instructions of the spiritual master or God are for everyone. Universal, for everyone, not just for one particular person, but for all of us.
When Lord Krishna came and he married 16,000 queens... On the whole, they're not ruining our health, but keeping our health fit, we shall try to reduce our eating. This is good. As soon as you sleep...
And if you reduce your eating, then you reduce your sleep. Because our time is very short. We do not know when I shall die. Therefore, my business should be:
I will finish Krishna consciousness very quickly so that I may not have to take again another birth to finish it. Well, how about a lot of our relationships finding grace?
He says, "My dear Lord, I do not care how many times I come back." All I want to do is... You are not Kulasekhara. He may not care, but you have to take care. The pure devotees, they don't care.
They—all they want to do is to serve the Lord. They don't care about it. He can take instruction from Prabhupāda, but don't try to imitate. Yeah.
Surrender and freedom from anxiety
That is our real self-interest. What we are taking other things as self-interest is—that is māyā. That is not our self-interest.
Here in this material world, we are taking self-interest means greatest amount of sense gratification. That is not actually self-interest. If you cut your throat and if you say, "It is my self-interest."
That is our self-defeat. Similarly, to understand God and go back to Him, back to Godhead, back to home. That is our real self-interest.
And if you have thrown in this wilderness of māyā, illusion, that is not our self-interest. But we have taken this is our self-interest. Sense gratification. Just like Viśāla Prabhu is proposed. Marriage is itself...
That's foolish, huh? Māyā, that is not my self-interest. So when I tell you, "I'm your greatest fool," you're the vibration. I'm speaking the truth. To become truthful, even one is greatest fool, that is a good quality.
Satyam, śama, dama, that is brāhmaṇa-guṇa. So you have so many qualifications, you delay this pressure. Why should he delay this for māyā? It's just that sometimes life becomes uncomfortable and you want to make excuses.
So you want, well, I think I'll try this. You know, maybe I'll feel better. But I was in India. In India, I was anxious to go to India. But I was in India, I was anxious to leave and come here.
Now I thought I'm anxious to get... Now you have trouble all the way up to heart. Yeah, you didn't have a feedback in L.A. and in India. I request you to make me fully Krishna conscious. Fully Krishna conscious.
You promised me in Africa you would. Can I ask you? So I desire to be fully Krishna conscious. Remember when we were in, um, Mombasa and there's very wealthy people's home?
You called me in and I was preaching to the black Africans and you seemed to be pleased and someone said, "Śrīla Prabhupāda wants to see him," and I went in there and you told me, "You're preaching to the Africans, you should keep preaching to them."
And I told you, you said, "Okay, I'll be full of your..." I can't wait. I'm getting impatient. Then say, "Oh, please." Well, you already have to be Krishna conscious.
Tell Krishna, "Please, I'm dying," like King Yudhiṣṭhira. "I've been exploiting all these lands with so many births and deaths, trying to be lord, and I'm tired of suffering. Please, I surrender to Your lotus feet."
So I'm requesting you, I'm getting tired of suffering. Please tell Krishna I'm tired of suffering, I'm very serious. I want to become fully Krishna conscious as soon as possible.
So then māyā will not be dictating to me nonsense. Everybody's suffering out there. Who has brought it? The Acyutānanda? From Bombay?
No, he got it from one man in Beverly Hills or somewhere, some man who had many books on Vedānta. Um, some scholarly type man. He said he could not give him a donation. He said, "But wait one minute."
He went downstairs and brought it up and gave it to him. Also, in the Bhagavad-gītā it says when the Lord is pleased with you, He will reveal Himself. So there's no doubt He's not very pleased with me.
There's no... what to become... Don't say like that, "He's not pleased." You could not please Him. That should be the idea. "I could not please Krishna." That is the point. The responsibility goes to Krishna?
But you should take the responsibility. "I could not please Krishna." Therefore He is not with me. What about "I cannot please you"? What about thinking in terms, "I can never please the spiritual master"?
That is... that is on an equality. Anyway, let the spiritual master and Krishna... We should take the reform. Don't accuse. Like, "He's not pleased with you." No, you could not please Him. I understand.
But we said, "Do not try to see God, but if you try to act in such a nice way, God will want to come to see you." Yeah, as you know, this feeling is funny. I should go out and distribute your... your cause's mercy.
Please accept my humble obeisances. Most grateful appreciation. Although it's a hard problem, very short problem. Yeah. At night also. I'm feeling better in there. Man dies not out of starvation, but by eating.
Actually, any man dies by excessive eating. Second largest killer of man is... second largest killer of man is overeating. Yeah. First is tension. Anxiety. Which overeating adds to.
Tension, anxiety is the first killer, some scientific studies. And second killer is too much eating. Anxiety means attachment. Anxiety means sense gratification.
If you want to gratify your senses, if it is not fulfilled, then anxiety is the by-product. And if you have no plan for sense gratification, you are satisfied in every condition of life, there will not be.
Anxiety is also described: na tam upatāpayet. Viṣayair viṣama-dhiyāṁ dhiṣaṇyāḥ. This is viṣaya-viṣama. The blazing fire of sense gratification, that is burning my heart.
Those who are after sense gratification, they are full of them. Take for example, we have got 160 men in this temple. And find out a man with six men in family, how much is he anxious?
How to maintain this family, how to get money, how to make them happy. But we have got hundred and sixty men. We have no fixed income, but we are not anxious. Why are we not? None of us.
Because we know Krishna, whatever Krishna will do, that's all. But Krishna never keeps us any day, a single day, starving. We are here for the last four years.
We have no such experience that we will starve any day for want of food. So anxiety is so long as long as we are after sense gratification.
But as soon as you take shelter of Krishna and simply engage in His service, then... There is a model: child. He has good faith in his father. He's free of anxiety.
Sometimes I... about, about thirty-two years ago, my youngest son, he was at that time, like this, three years old, less than a small child. So in Calcutta, there is a tramcar. No, he was sitting by me, the conductor came.
So the conductor, he out of curiosity, small child, "Give me a ticket, please." So he said, "Hey, I have no money. I can't pay you." Then he asked, "Then please get down." "Ah, my father is there. My father is there."
The conductor asked him to get down. This little... He could not pay, he practically had nothing. And when he jokingly asked him, "Then please get down," He said, "No, you cannot ask me. My father is dead."
This is the penance. Avaśya rakṣibe kṛṣṇa viśvāsa-pālana. Śaraṇāgati means Krishna will protect me in every setting. This is... let me engage fully in Krishna's service. My only business is to serve that. That makes him real.
Could you tell us about transcendental anxiety? Huh? Transcendental anxiety? But transcendental anxiety, that is love. That is love. That is improvement. Viraha. Just like Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Yes, cry. Ah, I couldn't see.
Jump over the sea. This is increasing love of Krishna. This is different. The same thing. As we are increasing love of self-gratification, proportionally, if we increase love for Krishna, then our life is a success.
The same thing transferred for Krishna. If we're feeling anxiety because we're not thinking of Krishna, not depending on Krishna for everything... Not fully surrendered, that's...
Is there such a thing, Śrīla Prabhupāda, as a favorable or as an unfavorable circumstance, unfavorable position to Krishna consciousness as far as one's state can be? There's nothing unfavorable.
Unfavorable and favorable. And what is favorable for advancing in Krishna consciousness, that we accept. What is unfavorable for advancing in Krishna, then we can reject it.
Just like chanting of sixteen rounds, this is favorable, this we accept. They don't change regulation at all. That will be favorable. So we should accept the favorable thing and reject the unfavorable.
Unfavorable: to sleep more, to eat more. These are unfavorable, so reject it. And chanting sixteen rounds, observing the rules, the roots, this way you have to mold your life.
Reject unfavorable, accept that which is favorable. Well, that's not sure this is... that I am just one of the most things I was up to...
