Reading purport on the Brahmastra weapon

And I do not understand it. Anything that is presented before the personality of Godhead should be so done after due presentation of respectful prayers.

That is the standard procedure and Sri Arjuna, although an intimate friend of the Lord, is observing this method for general information.

Supreme Personality of God had said, Know from me that this is the act of the Son of Drona. He has thrown the hints of nuclear energy Brahmastra, and he does not know how to retract this glare.

He has helplessly done this being afraid of imminent death. She ostro some coron for her janina, to go share a bromoshi ostro, we kept for astronomy to a tax for a port.

The brahmastra is similar to the modern nuclear weapon manipulated by atomic energy. The atomic energy works wholly on total combustibility and so the brahmastra also acts.

It creates an intolerable heat similar to atomic radiation. But the difference is that atomic bomb is a gross type of nuclear weapon, whereas brahmastra is a subtle type of weapon produced by changing hymns.

Into Talemon de Parthoko, into Bromoshi, Ostrovoce, Montre Brave, Bostu Doshuco Ostro. It is a different science and in the days gone by such science was cultivated in the land of Bharata Varsha.

The subtle science of chanting hymns is also material, but it has yet to be known by modern material scientists. Montrocharan Rucheshukobigan Tao Joro into Admin Jorocanica atmosphere some jante parini.

Subtle material science is not spiritual, but it has a direct relationship with the spiritual method which is still subtler. A chantor of hymns knew how to apply the weapon as well how to retract it.

It was perfect knowledge, but the son of Dronacharya who made use of this subtle science did not know how to retract. He applied it, being afraid of his imminent death, and thus the practice was not only improper but also irreligious.

The son of a Brahmana should not have made so many mistakes and for such gross negligence of duty, he was to be punished by the Lord Himself.

Significance of the Brahmastra in Srimad-Bhagavatam

Yontak pravisya Mamavachima Prasuptaam Sandjivata Kila Shakti Daraxwadamna Ayamshahastacharana Shramana Bhagad, Pranana Mau Bhagavate, Purushayatudu, Swasyastu Vishwasi Kalah Prasidatam dean to Butani, Shivam Mithuddia, Manaascha Badram Bajatata Doksha J So

here we are present in this moment of human history when the son of Dronacharya released Brahmastra or Brahma Shira Ambrau Idia Shri Otaya Ruichi Jane, Drona Chaj Putro, Oshutama, Brahmasho, Mikha Purishra.

It has a very great significance for us because ultimately Shrimad Bhagavatam was spoken because of this eventually not the Burtapuna Karan, a Kotonani Prohabe a Srimad Bhagavatam Sri Bhamara, Swambuta Pati.

Srimad Bhagavatam is explaining this story in connection with the story of Maharaj Parikshit, who is the great hearer, the first hearer of Srimad Bhagavatam.

Sunatal Bhatam, Porikit Maharaj, Avi Bavar Idias Bornana Kurse, Jantov, Romukhoja Swata, Sunatal Batamet, Romuk Sotha Parikit Maharaj, you have that journal And

therefore the story is full of significance and Srila Prabhupada is explaining different aspects of this story which we have to understand very clearly.

He uh slåker a three of Tom Togo Gutter is a one study but we win a D Show we win now point Guru we should have one In Mahabharata it

is explained that Dronacharya was the only one who possessed this sacred knowledge or very secret knowledge of Brahmastra. Mahavad the Balaka Banatarja Brahmastra Nikha Shishukan Yadasilo.

Even though he was a Brahmana, he still was the most powerful and none of Kshatriyas could actually conquer over Dronacharya. He was offended as we know the story. He was offended by Drupada, his schoolmate,

and he was so much offended that he desired to give revenge to Maharaja Drupada. School of archery brings getting an ostracized cardinal. But Maharaja Drupada was a very powerful kṣatriya.

And at that time, Droṇācārya heard that Paraśurāma is giving away his wealth to brāhmaṇas. We know the story from Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam that Paraśurāma, being

very angry because of the death of his father, he has extinguished the race of kṣatriyas 21 times from the surface of the earth. But because it's such a great sinful activity to kill human beings, especially kṣatriyas,

after doing this, he decided to atone, and as a means of atonement, he was giving away all his wealth and all his land which he possessed to brāhmaṇas.

And Droṇācārya heard that he is very generous and he's in this mood of giving away everything. So he decided it's my chance to go to him. And very humbly he approached Paraśurāma with folded hands.

Parasram told him it's too late. He said, I already gave away all my wealth, I don't have anything. I only have two things left. One is my body, another one is my weapons. My body and weapons.

You can choose, you may take my body or you can take my weapons. And Droṇācārya said I don't need your body. You keep your body yourself. You please give me your weapons. And he agreed also.

And Parasuram said Tathastu, let it be so. Paraśurāma then told him, tathāstu, I hope. And he, knowing pretty well that uh Droṇācārya is a very qualified person. He told him now I will teach you this secret weapon,

and specifically, he mentioned I will teach you how to release this brahmāstra. Without harming who be jokes on a brāhmaṇas and evangelists, you have a proof for the śāstra and put the way that we should.

said there is one condition which you should know, which you should follow. You should promise to me that you will never release this weapon against ordinary people.

You can only release this weapon against those who also possess the subtle knowledge of divine weapons. And Droṇācārya, being very self-controlled, he gave this vow: I will never use it against ordinary people. And then he has become the most powerful warrior

in the whole earth even though he was a brāhmaṇa because he possessed this divine weapon. And he decided to humiliate Drupada but

Dronacharya training Arjuna and the princes

and therefore he didn't want to fight with Drupada himself. He wanted Drupada to be conquered by his disciples.

And therefore directly he went to Hastināpura and he asked Bhīṣma Do you need some, some military teacher? By the way.

And of course Bhīṣmadeva was very happy to have And Dronacharya was very happy to have such pupils, such disciples. So he started teaching the sons of Pāṇḍavas and sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra together. And out of all of them, Arjuna was his favorite.

Because Arjuna was such a diligent disciple. He was studying under Dronacharya with such an eagerness

that Dronacharya's heart melted. Arjuna, then at that time, Dronacharya, you know, that's actually the secret how to please spiritual master or how to please, uh, guru, not necessarily spiritual master, but how to please guru, such a guru. But this eagerness and desire to serve is the most appreciated by the spiritual master by the guru. This is the secret of success in spiritual life.

Somehow or other you have to behave in such a way that uh the heart of your guru will be melted. We all know that the heart is usually uh quite hard.

Āndhrāḥ hṛdayam bhidyate, usually our heart is steel-like. Anyatha dehi syād madhura-śīca, madhura śīca. And we actually don't care about others.

The sign of the hard heart is that you don't care what's happening with other people. And even if a disciple comes to you and tries to serve you, you say, yeah, yeah, very good, very good, no problem. Serve me.

Go on, no problem.

But when a disciple is really sacrificing himself with a with a great eagerness to please the spiritual master, then the steel- like heart will be melted. The power of desire, the heat of desire in the heart of the disciple to obtain secret knowledge should melt the heart of the teacher.

If the disciple is lukewarm, he is he is himself, you know. Okay, okay, yeah, I'm very nice, very nice. I'll serve you. It's not going to work.

The disciple is pretending that he's serving guru and guru is pretending that he's teaching disciple. Perfect match. So Arjuna, he was such a perfect disciple

Imparting secret mantras to qualified disciples

that he was serving with such an eagerness that the heart of Dronacharya naturally melted. And actually, that was his purpose of teaching his disciples. He wanted to give this most secret weapon to the world.

And out of all the disciples which are there within Acharya in his school, in his military school, he singled out Arjuna and he said, only to you I will uh reveal this uh secret weapon.

So uh he uh took Arjuna in a secluded place on the bank of Ganga and he made the proper ritual and he secretly gave this mantra which could involve this very powerful energy.

Sunday conga to eagle and long shakana you know, shutokari colour from a bore, say Uton to Shutho, the Australian, Roman Sragan thing or Junka Budan Kurishman.

But before giving this mantra to the right ear of his disciple, he said to him, There is one condition which you should very strictly follow. I'll give you this weapon on the condition that you will never use it against ordinary people.

This is how Parampara system works. Guru gets the order of his Guru and he being disciple himself reveals the same order or gives the same order to his disciple. Guru, again, and

Ronacharya was perfectly sure that Arjuna will be able to follow this instruction. Testing period between the disciple and the guru before Guru reveals him knowledge is exactly to test the qualification of the disciple.

Knowledge is a very powerful thing, it's the most powerful force in this material world. And there is a possibility of misusing the knowledge.

Therefore in the Vedic system the teachers, the Gurus were very careful and before revealing secret knowledge which would make his their disciples very powerful, they would test them again and again and again.

The Jotunabendo Shishoton Jokovse Shay Ganner Shopti Shaky Jotway Ericum Hara Burroughs Ganner Shepard. To make sure that they will never misuse this knowledge, misapply it.

So when Dronacharya did this and Arjuna came from this ceremony and he was glowing because he was naturally happy and because he got an extra powers through this sacred mantra.

Ashvatthama demanding the secret weapon

A Montra Brabtipore Ojun here Montane Pikoshiko are only Montre Otiripto Sukti are Month from Charitov. And Ashvatthama, the son of Dronacharya, he saw Arjuna glowing with this effulgence and he became envious.

He came to his father and he begged his father and then he said, you know, why did you give this brahmāstra to Arjuna? Why you didn't give it to me? I am your son, you have to give it to me.

Dronacharya said, you're my son, but you're such an impetuous person, you're such a passionate person, I cannot give it to you.

Ashvathama is a partial manifestation of Lord Shiva and we know Lord Shiva is quite quite an angry person when he's angry. So also, I am speaking for Nam rāni śiṣyāṇām veṣa-priyau.

So knowing perfectly well the nature of his disciple, Dronacharya was hesitant to reveal this knowledge to him. But Ashvatthama was, you know, his name is Ashvatthama means aśvavat sthāma. He was very stubborn.

Ashvatthama sindhīte. He was stubborn like a horse. And therefore he was called Aśvatthāmā. So he was not easily desisted from this desire and he was insisting again and again and again and again and again and again.

And ultimately Dronacharya relented. I don't know if Dronacharya's wife has a role in this story. It's quite possible. But in any case, ultimately Dronacharya decided to give this knowledge to Ashwatama as well.

And again, before giving this secret knowledge, he told Ashwattama, uh you should promise to me that you will never use this weapon against ordinary people.

Strict conditions for using divine weapons

And Dronacharya said yes, yes, Guru Maharaj, everything, you know, no problem. Just give it to me. And then we need to and then we shall see. So does it sound familiar to you?

So Dronacharya gave this knowledge to Ashvatthama, but Dronacharya himself in the rage of this battle, he forgot his promise to his guru.

It was actually one of the reasons why he was killed in the battlefield of Kurukshetra because he committed sinful activities using divine astras divine weapons against ordinary people.

In anger he forgot because he couldn't control and our acharyas explained that he was a brāhmaṇa and therefore brāhmaṇas they're not supposed to—they are supposed to teach, but they're not supposed to fight themselves.

So iti purāṇam, you know, people think that's But Arjuna, being the perfect gentleman and perfectly self-controlled kṣatriya, he never used Brahmastra during the battlefield of Kurukṣetra.

But once Arjuna, tini iti sthāsmi, I don't know what he

Actually, there was one also one little story before that connected with this brahmastra and Dronacharya. Karna, the arch enemy of Arjuna and his rival before the battle of Kurukshatra he knew that Arjuna is invincible because he possesses this knowledge of Brahmastra. And therefore he approached Dronacharya with the same request.

And he has Dronacharya, you know, but he possesses this secret knowledge. Why don't you reveal it to me?

And Dronacharya said this knowledge only pure Brahmanas and self-controlled kshatriyas are eligible to have this knowledge, you are not fit. Dronacharya said, no. To me?

Arjuna using the Brahmastra against Karna

He said not every even not every Kshatriya is uh perfectly suited or qualified to have this knowledge, so get out of here.

So many times during the battle of Kurukshetra when uh the situation was tense, uh Krishna uh was trying to uh tell Arjuna, Arjuna, use this Brahmastra, use this Brahmastra. Why you're not using Brahmastra?

And Arjun always refused. He said, no, no, no, no, I will manage without brahmastra. But then when the time of the duel of the uh fight between Arjuna and Karna came, uh Krishna uh became really emphatic.

He said now you have to use a brahmastra. And Arjuna said, how can I use Brahmastra? I cannot use Brahmastra against him. And then Krishna said, if you don't use brahmastra now against Karna, I

will use my sudarsana chakra, no problem. So that was the only time when Arjuna used Brahmastra against Karna. Ultimately he killed very powerful warrior Karna by this Brahmastra weapon. So

that means, so Krishna blackmailed Arjuna. So and Prabhupada, of course, he explains this very important point.

He makes a very, very important point in the purport to this verse, how this signs of subtle signs of sound works and how people in the gone in the age which are gone by they knew this science. Sri Prabhupada says that

This whole Vedic culture was based on this science of sound. From the very beginning, from the very young age, children were taught how to pronounce words perfectly.

The science of properly pronouncing sounds is the most important and most subtle as Prabhupada says science which is whichever exists. Sri Prabhupada Purchan Jonah Shopdo Joke Vikhan Shik Shophe Wanata Vikhan.

This science is called Shiksha. And you know the this science was perfected in the Vedic culture. In fact, people of Vedic civilization they were proud of their ability to pronounce sound in a very proper way.

In the other countries who didn't perfect this science who didn't really pay attention to this science they were called mlecchas. And the word mlechen means uh coming from the root uh from from the verbal root mlich.

Mleccha means not pronounced properly. Mlech has literally means those who just like

uh I was I spent some time in my of my life in Sweden and Swedish people they always say like like Bengalis And And Denmark is nearby and the Swedes there they actually very they they look down at the Danish people because they say that Denish people they speak Swedish as if they have hot potato in their mouth.

So Swedish

Neuroscientific effects of chanting Vedic mantras

ammonia potto cheer chat But from the Vedic point of view, we're all the same, we all have hot potato in the mouth.

So and as Prabhupada says it's a very important science and now the actually the neuroscience starts exploring or discovering the science behind this sound that neurology last night also began a kebara begun to professional woods.

Like recently in collaboration with some American scientific institution and some Indian institution they studied the brain of little children who still recite Vedas. They

do this magnetic resonance and they study the brain, the structure of the brain of this little children who recite Vedas properly. So

uh and uh they were very amazed by the discovery by the findings of this scientific study because uh they found out that this part of the brain, which is the most important human part of the brain near the earlobes and near the forehead, is very much much more developed in this children than from the ordinary children.

Actually, this part of the brain is responsible for our memory, it's responsible for many, many uh is it's responsible for the intelligence uh how to take proper decisions, and is responsible for self-control. This is all the very important functions of this part of the brain.

And they to their surprise, they discovered that this part of the brain starts developing because of the Vedic sound, under the influence of Vedic sound.

A boy shop to Soviet poly, a Monsicher Shomong, Otanto, Pustaway, Jong Shuri, Amanda, Putti Juna, the Swedish of the Jurna, Another English Hong June Journal, or Tanto Krabash.

Actually that's the secret why people of Vedic culture they had such a powerful brain and why they had such a powerful memory. They could remember practically everything just because of the influence of this Vedic sound.

And as Prabhupada makes this uh point, very important point, he says that uh this uh science of the sound is material science. It's not spiritual science, but it's in connection with the spiritual science.

This mastery of the sound, of the knowledge, how the sound works and how you can create very important influence, material influence by pronouncing this sound is very much in connection with the ultimate spiritual science of sound.

That's actually the design of Vedic culture. In Vedic culture, everyone wants to be from the material point of view, everyone wants to have some power.

So the Vedas they teach how to pronounce words properly so that you would develop some power is hot-bed mathematics of the original.

By uh pronouncing very exact vibrations, sound vibration in the ether, uh you will be able to influence this because the ether is the background of all reality.

Yeah, this Akash, the element of Akash, the most subtle element, which is according to Sāṅkhya philosophy, is a tonal element.

So it produces the it it contains sound and all the gross vastus all the gross substances. They're result of this subtle sound. The subtle sound is behind anything gross which we have.

So the principle of Vedic sound was like this you know you uh master this sound, and then this way you will be able to influence this gross material nature and obtain whatever you want, whatever you like.

By creating the very exact and very proper vibration in ākāśa, uh you will be able to uh uh materialize certain things, certain results, get what you want to achieve.

But ultimately all this science was taught with the purpose to teach how to achieve spiritual perfection. Because the only way to get out of this... The

last sutra of Vedānta-sūtra sounds anāvṛtti śabdāt, anāvṛtti śabdāt. Through sound, from the sound you can get release from this material energy, from the clutches of this material energy.

But only if you know the science of spiritual sound, how the spiritual sound is actually non-different from the object of the spiritual sound and how ultimately spiritual sound is non different from the Lord Himself.

Philosophical theories of word and sound

It is Ātmārāma... So what do you see?

wanted to tell a little bit about the science spiritual science of sound as described by Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda and a very beautiful article in which he It's an amazing article where he explains different theories of sounds, basically two, but different variations of these two theories, sphoṭavāda and varṇavāda. Spotavada and Varnavada.

Shop the third we will know the S and Alaskanhur said, Spotabada. And he explains in great detail the spotavat of Panini, Spotavat of Sankaracharya, Spotavat no Sankaracharya was again spot.

Spotawatov, Patanjali, you know he described different theories how the sound and the meaning, sound of the word and the meaning of the word are interrelated. About any about the shoot through the gate.

You have a shop to one is not the authentically, I'm not a big learn to I actually already overuse my Okej, so very quickly. I I'll I'll try to give a little review at how it relates to us.

He explains this Spotavat and varnavat again in very

simple words, Spotawat says that when you hear the sound then the meaning of the word which I pronounce or anyone pronals is reveret through spåta through the subtlen saund stå not through the gross sund.

Spodabdel töorin shooter should have a shop or a she shop the third a should be something.

According to grammarians uh they say that you pronounce the word, but this word creates in your mind the subtle sound, and this subtle sound reveals the meaning of this word to you.

The biggest Japanque shop there the shook to be mostly of shot there or to Muslim.

And the philosophers of Karma Mimamsa who and they say that gross sound is not eternal. Gross sound is uh it disappears because when we pronounce war uh some sounds it disappears.

So there is some spotter, some subtle sound which is eternal and this is how you recognize or understand the meaning of the word. By the philosophers of Mimamsa they say no no this is nonsense.

The sound is eternal, even gross sound is eternal. They say Vedic sound is eternal because you know you you you cannot you cannot say that it disappears, it's always there.

They say that the gross sound which we pronounce it just reveals the eternal sound which is already there in the ether. Uh stores of the cotonger some of the attached.

They say, like if you are in a dark room and you have a torchlig. Our using the moderna example if you have the mobile phone with the torchlight.

So this torchlight reveals the objects which are already there in this dark room. The torchlight doesn't create these objects.

In the same way they say when we say, for example, when we say any word, let's say we say the word cow. The word cow is already there.

Just by pronouncing this word, we reveal this vibration which is eternal, which is always there in the ether, in a cast. And the sound and the meaning are eternally interrelated. The cow is always cow.

And so, by revealing this sound which is already there in the ether, we reveal the meaning of the sound because the sound and the meaning are inseparable according to Mimamsa theory. That's called varṇavāda.

Each and every sound of the Vedic alphabet has some meaning and when they combine together they reveal this meaning. And Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī, he subscribes to the theory of varṇavāda. He refutes sphoṭa.

He said sphoṭavāda is nonsense, it's māyāvāda. Actually, Mīmāṁsakas are right in this regard. The sound is eternal and every syllable of the Vedic alphabet has this power to reveal the meaning to us.

Pero Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura in this beautiful article, very learned article, he makes a very amazing point in the end of this article. He said, actually, both are right.

Even Jiva Gosvāmī, he says, varṇavāda is right, sphoṭavāda is not right.

Shikshashtaka and the science of sound

But then he quotes Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and he says, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam also speaks in favour of sphoṭa.

And he reconciles these two views and he said that actually, Śrīman Mahāprabhu, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, he perfectly reconciled these two theories in his Śikṣāṣṭaka.

And he actually says in this article that what Śikṣāṣṭaka means, he says Śikṣā is the subtle science of sound. So Śikṣāṣṭaka is the creation of Caitanya Mahāprabhu which reveals the real science of sound.

He is revealing us the meaning of the Vedic sound in Śikṣāṣṭaka prayers.

And in Śikṣāṣṭaka prayers he says that actually if you chant the holy name properly, then the sphoṭa of the object of this holy name will be revealed to you. You will have sphūrti of Krishna Himself.

He says that the sound, every sound is eternal because every sound actually denotes God Himself. Every sound is devātmaka. And if we understand this, if we have this understanding that every sound, especially Vedic sound, especially the sound of Hare Krishna mantra, denotes God Himself, and if we chant this Hare Krishna mantra with this understanding, then the spot or spurti of Krishna himself who is the object of this sound will be revealed to us.

And that's the inner meaning of Shikshashtak prayers of Chaitanya. He says, please listen very carefully.

He says ordinary when we pronounce sound the Maya, when we pronounce sound and when when we hear sound, Maya covers over this sound and deprives us the darshan of Bhagawan, who is there in the sound?

uh talk to people of and therefore we don't see Krishna we say Krishna but we don't see Krishna in the sound.

Because Maya covers over Maya being in our head and uh there it she covers the the meaning the real meaning of the sound which is Krishna himself.

Another one say um kevra, say so tickar the ortho prisoner, say the polluti of the Bible.

But if you hear the spiritual sound which is coming from the spiritual space, spiritual acas produced by the pure devotee by the lips of the pure devotee. That this sound has the potency to reveal to you the object of this sound as it is.

Therefore we have to receive the sound from a pure mm heart, from the pure soul, from the from the s pure devotee of the Lord. We cannot get this sound from the book.

We have to receive it from this space, from the spiritual space revealed to the pure devotee of the Lord.

And if we chant this sound properly, if we serve this sound with utmost sincerity, then ultimately, this pure sound which we received from a pure devotee will reveal its meaning to us in it means that we we will have the darshan of the Lord.

And he's a good and he says, explains what does it mean, how we should chant uh this sound vibration so that the spurtio of the Lord will be revealed to us is explained in this Shikshashtaka prayers.

Specifically in the verse Trinadha Pisu Nichina, Tarora Pisa Vishnua, Amanina Madina, Kirtani Yasada This is the complete revel uh revelation of the sound.

If you master this Vedic sound by chanting Hare Krishna mantra through the media of Shikshastakam prayers, then you will have the revelation of the object of this sound which is God Himself.

And that's exactly the meaning of this Padma Purana sloka which says that uh sevonmuke spurativa uh uh sevan mukje heat vad spuratada.

The spurti or spot of Krishna will come to you through this sound if you chant Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Ram, Rama, Ram Hare Hare Kr. Thank you very much.

Śrīla Prabhupāda kī jaya. I don't think there is time for questions because it's already late. So let's not upset the schedule. Thank you very much.
