Srimad-Bhagavatam as the ripened Vedic fruit
Uh onone kaha who are here to hum uh anyway I will speak in English I tried enough I'm sorry. So then key He
says that Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is ripened fruit of the desired tree of Vedic literat Shrimp said, Pedak a Purata Pakyway Falk Samantha. I have to switch from Hindi to me.
Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam even among Vedic literature has a very special place. Sari Vedic Ratovai Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam Bedavyas, who is the author of uh practically all Vedic literature. He created Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam the last.
This story is described in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam itself.
He wrote 18 Puranas, he divided four Vedas into four parts, he systematized all the Vedic literature, and ultimately he wrote Mahabharata, which is the greatest book in the whole creation.
Shila Vyasdev, Sadi Vedik Rantoko, Chare Vedovhajitya, Matrapuranikhe, Sare Vedoko, Xut Se Lone, Sanyuchithya Sapse Prasida Grandhe and Adbud Grandhe Mahabharata.
But even after writing this, and then he also uh wrote Vedānta-sūtra. Sūtra. Mahabharati Upantamade Vedānta-sūtra Kiriasati Vedānta Sūtra is the most amazing book. Vidantra Sutra Sabse Adhun Pustakaya Adhabya Pustakaya.
It's the most philosophical book and uh people even now they study this book in a very uh diligent way. V Vidanta Sutra Samsung Sri Sash Shastra Abhi Bhaksare Amjabik Vitae Vovidanta
Dissatisfaction despite great literary achievements
Sutra Kamya Kati But even after that, uh Śrī Vyāsadeva was not happy. When you create such great literature, you should feel satisfaction. I am such a great author. I created that beautiful literature.
But Vyāsadeva didn't feel satisfaction within the heart. Actually there is a very important lesson in this little story. Actually this chokisi katame bhap mehatupun gyranchi
pahubarahe The real satisfaction comes to our heart not from our achievement, not from our success. The real satisfaction only will come to our heart if Krishna within our heart is heav When
we have some success uh in life, it will bring us some little satisfaction for very short time. Once I was speaking with one atheistic person he was Bharatiya Indian person. I asked him, what do you want?
He said, I want to be happy. He said, I want to be happy. I asked him Kispra Kara I asked him How you think you will become happy? He started thinking. He said, if I become like Mukeshambhani, I will become happy.
I said what's so special about Mukeshambani? He said he created this geo and the whole Indi is now using this geo and I asked him, do you think that Mukeshambani is still happy that he created Jio?
Or this happiness was only for a few minutes? Do you think that even now he sits and thinks, oh how great I am, I created Giu, and I am so happy. She thought a little bit and said, no.
So the success will bring us happiness, but this happiness is very fleeting, it's very temporary. Sometimes people think, if I have this, I will become happy. If I have this, I will become happy. Yes, you will become happy.
Ah, push home for one day. Is it what you want? No, we want to be happy always. And we can only be happy always if Krishna is happy within our heart, if Paramātmā in our heart is happy with us.
Encounter between Vyasadeva and Narada Muni
So Śrīla Vyāsadeva is showing by his example that even though he he has achieved such a great success, even though he is a great yogi, even though he is a great ṛṣi and he is such a wise person, still he is not happy.
And at this very moment, when he felt this deep unhappiness within his heart, which actually happened in Badarikashram up there in Himalayas. At this very moment, Narada Muni, his Guru, came to him.
To Yivadha Badrika Shraki or Jabi Badrika Shrape Jabi Yesab Pativa Usik Shrampay Unke Guru Yasmikuru Naratuni This little again part of this story again very instructive for us.
When we become introspective and really understand the condition of our heart, when we really understand that I'm not happy despite of all my endeavors, I tried so hard to become happy, still I am unhappy.
At this moment, when we realize that something is wrong with what I am doing at this moment we can meet with our spiritual master. Guru K Sharon Janik Yoky Guthai. Meeting with Guru is not an ordinary thing.
To meet real Guru and to surrender to real Guru, it's not a simple thing. Tramadik Guruko Villa or a Tramadik Guru Kashara Vina Yta Sarika here.
One has to really deeply realize that I need uh somebody who will teach me how to become happy. Sahime Satiki Avashaka. And who can teach you how to become happy? Only somebody who is happy himself.
Isliha Naradamuni always places Vina. Isli Narad Muni Hamasha Vina Pati We
Identification with the physical body and mind
have never seen Naradamuni sitting and singing very deeply. He is never in depression. So he comes to, uh, Vedavyāsa and he asks him, why you, you think you're not happy?
And Vedavyāsa gives a very amazing answer to this question of Nārada Muni. Or Vyasa Narada Muni go bhot achi par bata He
He said Vedavyāsa himself says, I think I'm not happy because I identify myself with this body and with this mind. Share say or manse, man beast. Shall we say the heels? This is a very amazing butt hair.
This is a very amazing thing that then that Vyāsa himself he says, yes, I identify myself with the body and with the mind.
He is such a great yogi, he is such a great ṛṣi-muni. Still, uh he sometimes feels I am this body, I am this mind. Vyasne Vitanebare Yogi Henny Bare Yani Heikin Privi O Kahaki Kabika Bi maybe Sadira Manse Atme Pesantana.
And Narada Muni looks at him and says This is your mistake. This is this is your problem. And this is not his problem, this is our problem.
Our problem is that theoretically we may know I am eternal soul I live always I will not die but this is only theoretical knowledge to Hambi Hamish Pate ihan When
When we stand in front of the mirror, we don't think I am jīva soul. Always our consciousness comes to this level. I am this body and I am this mind.
And when the consciousness comes to this level, I am this body and I am this mind, it means that we have a problem. Because our body always there are some problems in the body.
One disease or another disease or one has to scratch something or do something else. And in the mind there also this disturbance, some anxiety, some problem is always there in the mind.
And when there is no problem, we will create this problem in the mind and start thinking about this problem.
Mind is very beautiful creation which always creates some problem even when there is no problem. That's the nature of the mind to always be in anxiety.
So therefore when we think I am this mind or I am this body we have a problem. In fact, it's not that we have a problem, we are the problem. Hamani password samasya. How swear is that period? That's the problem.
Narada Muni's instructions on pure devotion
So uh and uh uh the because Vyāsadeva, even though he is such a great rishi yogī, uh he didn't present the essence of Vedic literature in a proper way. He himself had a problem.
So from this little encounter of Narada Muni and Veda Vyasa, the whole Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam appeared. Shoke say, Hate K Paridam Sokul, Shemat Bhagavatam, Dhada Nokai, Naradamuni chastised Bedevyas.
He said, You did a great disservice to the humanity by mixing bhakti with gyana and karma. Instead of giving the pure bhakti, you make the mixture of karma,
jñāna, little yoga, a little different upāyas which are there, little astrology, jyotiṣa is there, this and that. And then you said this is what you need to know.
So Shutu Bhakti, Nah, Avne Bhakti Meh, Janka, Yoga, Jodhishka, uh And this is a very long standing tradition. Still to this day people do exactly the same thing. You can go to Tapavana or to Ramjula and go to any
yoga studio and then you will get a nice kitchari of all different medical parts. But the point is that by this kitchari one cannot be liberated.
Kitchari may be good for your health, but not good for your spiritual well being a Shadow Stack and Saw that can particularly prototype and this program So
when we have this mixture of different upayas, of different ways, of different gods to you know ishtadevatas, this and that. Tikha Satsa, Tura Yoga, Tura Janka, Tura Tka, Tura Rushanaika, Thomishra.
This, this is a very human mentality. Human, they always think that, you know, in case this doesn't work, maybe this will work or this will work. And they try to do so many things at once. Yeah.
We don't know Shri Bhagavan, Krishna Bhagavan, Vishnu Bhagavan, Sai Baba Bhagavan, or Kon Bhagavan hair ham lahijantin.
But in reality we should only have one prayojan, one objective should be there, only one goal should be there. Like Sri Ram, he shows this. You know, eka-patni-vrata, you know?
You know, stri should be completely concentrated on her pati and uh you see Prakash Hamara Jiman may be ekudeshanachae?
Sri Krishna Himself says in Bhagavad-gītā, vyavasāyātmikā buddhir ekeha kuru-nandana, when the mind has so many branches and when the mind has so many different goals to achieve ultimately he will not achieve anything.
And therefore Nārada Muni told the other, yes, you did the wrong thing because you mixed everything. You wanted to please everyone and ultimately you cheated everyone.
For us to achieve the goal, we should know the goal very clearly. If we don't know the goal very clearly, we will never achieve the goal. We will never be able to invest all our energy to achieve the goal.
And spirit goal is so high that you cannot achieve it if you don't invest your energy into achieving this goal. It's not cheap. Nowadays people they want everything that but they want it by paying cheap price.
People want mukti, uh but you know mukti is not a cheap thing. Mukti chayoki I remember I once was in Jagannātha Purī. Radajka Mujha Lukabhana Jagannath Puri Venja.
And I was in the beach of Jagannātha Purī and in the beach of Jagannātha Purī there are some people who are selling some goods as everywhere.
And uh once one of these sellers approached me and he said, I have a very beautiful, precious, precious stone. Here was here. Do so rute. Yeah. As we hira. This is called parampara.
Srimad-Bhagavatam as pure devotional service
So people want something which is very valuable but they want to pay cheap price for this. And Nāradamuni told that yes, you should teach people the real path.
The real essence of Vedic literature is śuddhā-bhakti. Sāra Vedic, jñāna, yoga, jo sāra, vaha śuddhā bhakti. Because only śuddhā-bhakti, only pure bhakti can give the complete satisfaction to the soul.
Only śuddhā-bhakti can make your soul completely, totally always happy. Mixed bhakti cannot do this. What to speak about creating Gio of all these kind of achievements. Or just something.
So the manifestation of this pure bhakti among Vedic literature is Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam speaks only about śuddhā-bhakti. Śrīmad-bhāgavatam kevalaṁ kevalaṁ śuddhā-bhakti kā arthaṁ.
In Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam there is some stories about karma or jñāna or yoga, there is there. But all these prasanks, all these stories only as a background to show that the real goal is śuddhā-bhakti.
Śuddhā-bhakti prayojana yahai, kevalaṁ kevalaṁ śuddhā- bhakti sarvasvaṁ.
And uh the śuddhā-bhakti, the object of śuddhā-bhakti, Śrīmad- Bhāgavatam very beautifully describes that the object of real śuddhā-bhakti is only Kṛṣṇa and not only Kṛṣṇa but only Kṛṣṇa in Vṛndāvana.
Śrīmad-bhāgavatam bhakti kevalaṁ Vṛndāvana Kṛṣṇa, which is mādhurya-mayī Kṛṣṇa, which is very sweet Krishna, which is completely human-like Krishna, which allows very close relationship with Him. He can only be the object of pure Bhakti.
Śuddhā-bhakti kā lakṣya, śuddhā-bhakti kī lakṣya, Vṛndāvana Kṛṣṇa ho sakte, jo rūpa se madhura, madhura-mayī, jo rūpa se itare. And
therefore, when Śrīla Vyāsadeva created Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, He invested into Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam in the very middle of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam this precious 35 or 36 chapters about Vṛndāvana, Kṛṣṇa-līlā, to jamni śrī-vācā, kṛṣṇa-karṇa-rasa-keli-līlā, say Rādhikā.
And ultimately, if we understand this, then the pure bhakti will come to our heart. Just by hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam we can achieve pure bhakti.
And only when we get śuddha-bhakti, then we can get beyond the body and mind.
When we are in this stage of complete absorption in śuddha-bhakti and śuddha-bhakti is a very absorbing thing, then we will be able to completely get rid of this attachment to body and mind.
So śuddha-bhakti is the real samādhāna to all our samasyā. Because all our problems are because of the identification with the body and mind.
Whatever problem you take, it all boils down to this false ego, to ahaṅkāra, I am this body and I am this mind.
Srila Prabhupada's application of Srimad-Bhagavatam
Uh so judge we have said it's anything may share, but Śrīmad Bhagavatam is very natural and very simple way of switching our consciousness from absorption into the body and mind into absorption into Krishna.
And Śrīla Prabhupāda, he proved it by his example. When he came to America, he didn't know how people in America will react uh for his preaching. But he had complete total trust into the
words of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, in the power of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. He knew that the words of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam themselves can transform the hearts of the people.
He came to hippies and hippies were you know they were taking drugs, sometimes
they were going naked, they were very degraded people, to Śrīla Prabhupāda has a constant... happy hippy, Rāma-pāṭa. Hippy mata vā dāsa-skanda te te ho kāmi kāmi nagnā vihaṅgā te te, and see.
But Śrīla Prabhupāda said, I made hippy into happy. By changing their hearts.
How he changed their hearts? By Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, by the words of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. And he said by repeating the words of Nārada Muni that Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is meant to create the revolution into the impious lives of the modern civilization.
Samāj is pāpa-pūraṇa mahāna samāj pūrṇa rūpa se ākrānti mī akāśaka?
So Śrīla Prabhupāda, he created this revolution. He created this revolution in our hearts in the hearts of thousands and millions of people. And in this way he proved the potency of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. K Bhakti Kushti.
Therefore, we knowing this very well should read Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam every day. On Isri Javi Hamishatan says Shrimad Bhagavatam ke bhodiktehuri vish By
serving Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam every day, by reading Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam every day, we can completely purify our heart. And then we will be able to also purify other people and this whole world will be purified.
And if we having this chance of coming in contact with Śrīmad- Bhāgavatam, don't take advantage of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Don't really try to absorb our mind into Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.
We should consider ourselves the most unfortunate people in the world.
Clearing the debt owed to sages
Or other Shrivatuhaphatam K Sampartme Anake Bhadhi, Shri Bhapatam Ko Parnikhi of Sakra make Bhadvi, Adam Shrivathapatakko up and Jimanme Nahi Sandhi There
There is this famous concept in Vedic culture of pañca-ṛṇa about five debts which we all have. And one of the debts which we have is the debt to great sages. How can we absorb ourselves from this ṛṇa?
Because if we become if we remain debtors, we will have to come back again and again and again. So to absolve ourselves from this ṛṇa we have to study the literature.
Otherwise Vyāsadeva, he just, uh, without any reason created this Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. No, he created it for us, and we have to take advantage of this and be grateful for him for doing this.
Or yeah, Tata said for maybe Shura Patamoritze Paranaja, or a key that if we chant Hare Rāma, uh, it's very important along with chanting Hare Rāma to read Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.
Because chanting of Hare Rāma is meditation, it is dhyāna, and we can only meditate when we know the object of our meditation which is described in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.
Orham Banki Nampet Dhava Utani and Chinese Hank Lakshmi Handi Vastu Mustapur Yamoka.
So by chanting Hare Rāma and reading Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam only, we in a very easy but not cheap way can achieve the real spiritual success in our life.
To Bhavan Kikiwal Namja or Nav say Bhapan Shravan Patan Sehi Bhari Saranta say Ham Bhag Bhagavad Bhati Prabhikasati Alhabi Dutch. Saralta say but not cheap. To ye yes saralhe leki sastanahi. Saralhe sastanahi. Sahibharti.
Thank you very much, Hare Krishna. Hare Krishna.
Understanding conditional and ultimate surrender
Not as you say, each an authentic. But then do you hear you all people said? Hello Krishna Maharaj, please extend my obeisance until the best of your good speed.
Maharaj, uh I have a question that we see uh our spiritual master is a pure devotee of the Lord.
Uh yet we are not able to fully surrender onto his devotees. We should, what should our mood should be in order to do the full surrender onto the Lotus feet.
It's very natural that in the beginning our surrender will not be complete.
The example of this is in Bhagavad-gītā. Arjuna in the beginning of Bhagavad-gītā when he understood that I have a problem, he surrendered to Krishna.
So Raju Chapi Prabhana Bhagavad Gita ki abhaspate jivat me pooch sabasya He said, I'm tam prapanam, I am the your disciple and the soul surrendered unto you. Please give me your Upadesh.
But not in the next slok, but in the shloka after that he says nayotya I'm surrendered to you but I'm not going to fight those shloke valdi asukete apa sha nata So this is called conditional surrender.
But at the end of Bhagavad-gītā, uh Arjuna said that please tell me whatever you will tell whatever you will tell me I will do. Karishya Vachanamtawa.
So between the initial surrender and the complete surrender, there is some process. So as the other thntipuna sharnagati ki bichway e ka Prakrya. Prakrya. Prakriya.
So this process is basically what happened in Bhagavad- gītā during this time between the initial surrender and the final surrender when he was ready to do whatever Krishna will tell him, between this there was some process of inquiry, some process of purification of the heart and some process of purification of Buddhi intelligence.
Puran Sranavatiha, Purin Praamik Sranavati or Puran Sranamati keachme which Rashnantalway which Hideka or Mandala Sudhikaranva or Buddhi Suddikarna. B Bududddhihi. ka Suddikarna.
So uh when we listen again and again and again to our Guru, then the desire and understanding that this is what we are supposed to do will become stronger and stronger and ultimately it will uh conquer over all the problems which and obstacles which uh separate us from this moment so that's the point.
And the determination to do it will also become stronger and stronger and stronger by seeing the example of Guru. Aham āmāra guru ke āmārāpahu, āmārāpi śaraṇāgati ki chā, āvara prabhupāda bhajī āsāni āmārā ki gaṅgā kṛṣṇa?
Overcoming mental distractions during chanting
Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Purāṇa. How, how we can concentrate our mind in chanting, how we can concentrate our properly fully mind in chanting?
If there is a lot of garbage in your mind, then you will not be able to concentrate your mind on the chanting. We can notice when they start chanting all this kacra comes on the surface of our mind.
So if every day we give or we you know absorb some kacra into the mind, uh you can be sure that this kacra will manifest itself during the chanting.
So the first condition to concentrate on chanting is to decrease the consumption of garbage. Jāgo mana kacra. So if we uh at least in the evening before going to sleep we should concentrate our mind into something pure.
Therefore I said that in order to chant properly, you have to read Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Without reading Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam you will not be able to chant properly.
Without chanting the holy name, you will not be able to read Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam always. A vinā niyamitam sadya nāma Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam ko niyamitam.
Therefore these two things, chanting of the holy name and reading Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam should go together, side by side.
And if we read Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and think about Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam about ślokas of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, then by chanting the holy name our mind will be going to the holy name or to the concept of holy name which is described in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.
Aligning immediate satisfaction with ultimate goals
Thank you very much for such a recommendation.
Although the thing is very clear here that we should go on preaching that will give us various discussion and it appears that because uh because of our short temper teach us, we know that in our heart we know that to care is all like going for achievements, even in bhakti doing some uh devotional service activities, that that gives us initial pressure and going for pleasing Krishna, it appears that it takes a lot of time. So that time we go for these cheap things.
Or the thing only. And then we cry for some time but then we fail in that. Then again the satisfaction feels. But then we are accustomed to having that kind of initiate pressure.
That we do something for example in preaching. So okay, let us go for preaching. If I preach more maybe accurate satisfaction.
Because thinking of sneezing of Krishna and then investing time in that appears like it takes a lot of effort how to go about that. There is nothing wrong in Tatkalik Prasanta in immediate satisfaction.
Provided this immediate satisfaction is also connected with the higher goal of ours.
this is an art to achieve something which is needed for us to achieve, to feel some immediate satisfaction, but not to try to achieve it separately, but to connect it with achieving the highest goal.
Then if it is connected with our highest goal, then by achieving this immediate satisfaction we will also deep within our heart feel some deeper sort of satisfaction, maybe not so strong and not so bright and vivid, but still we will have satisfaction.
Yes, I came little closer to Krishna by achieving this success.
Yes, I may still be far away from being close to Krishna or being directly satisfying him, but still I feel that I came little closer and that enough uh that is again a source or cause of great satisfaction within the heart.
So we should try to lead our life in such a way that it will bring us some normal satisfaction, immediate satisfaction, but we should try to connect it with the highest goal of our life.
Because if we separate one from another then uh we will ultimately feel very disappointed even by achieving this so-called success.
I will we will feel I am such a fool, I wasted so much time, so much energy, I achieved I will, we will feel, "I am such a fool, I wasted so much time, so much energy, I achieved this, I didn't become happy, and I deviated from this path of Krishna."
Thank you very much, Hare Krishna. Thank you.
