Translation of Srimad-Bhagavatam verses

Nowadays, therefore, it appears that every state is busy manufacturing the economic weapons to prepare for a third world war.
Such preparations are certainly unnecessary. They reflect the false pride of the heads of state.
The real business of the chief executive is to see to the happiness of the mass of people by carrying them in just consciousness in different divisions of life.
And leaders who train the people as Brahmanas, Satan's vices, and sutras, and engage them in various educational duties, thus helping them progress the world personal consciousness.
Instead, however, roles and thieves in the guise of protectors arranged for a voting system, and in the naming democracy, they come to power by thought approach and exploit the citizens.
Even long, long ago, as well as persons devoid of all consciousness become the head of state. And now this is happening again. The various states of the world are pre-occupied as a renting from military stance.
Sometimes they stand 65% of the government revenue for this purpose. But why should people's hard-earned money be spent in this way?
Because of the presentation, Krishna has descended in the form of Krishna consciousness movement. It is quite natural, for without the Krishna consciousness movement, the

Krishna consciousness as the ultimate remedy

But from the beginning of Sima Bhagavatam, from the very first candle of Suman Bhagavatam, until the last candle of Sumatra, Sudras Bhana and Maharaj and Sudhayakaswanda stressing this point that only hearing of Srimad Bhagavatam is a solution of all the problems.
And the very beginning of Suma Bhagavatam. Prabhupada is explaining this by saying that the whole world situation is completely crazy. Why is that? Because it's infected by the disease of the age of Ali.
The age of Ali is called the age of warming of people before. People are quarreling, as Prabhupada explains here, like cats and dogs. They descended to the animalistic level and they quarrel without any reason.
Sometimes you see dogs on the street and they just started quarreling. And nobody knows what is the reason. And there is no really reason.
They just felt how there's huge commotion, you know, they're fighting against each other. But there is no reason. And just after a few seconds, they get this school and they're just going, you know, their dogs business.
So there's no reason. It's just it's just nature. They just express their nature by quality of this other. So exactly the same situation is there in the human society nowadays.
Inflated ego as the cause of conflict
And this particular voice which we read today actually explains to a certain extent why the quartering is going on. It is specifically said Drika Ritva Vyajana Dha Sata Uh and it is explained here that
are these rikas or people who are Those people who are supposed to be the rulers, they have a particular quality which increases this quality dependency of the human being.
And this particular quality in Sanskrit is called Drika. Dritta or Dharma. It means pride. Ego. When somebody becomes very basic, when he is ego, becomes inflated.
And this when he's pribe uh overwhelms his consciousness, then you know the world starts without any reason. I'm living in a part of the world where people have deeplies. So big.
In India even not that big. I mean on some levels of the society they're probably even bigger here in India. But uh you know among the simple people it's still quite busy.
You can see people they can sit together in in one breere's uh 25 people in general. It's quite common. And the best it's uncovered. It's impossible because eagles are too big. People cannot be acting.
There has to be some space between the people. Otherwise you'll be encroaching on your space and will be formed. So what we can see, this is how it works.
If the ego becomes big, then people take personally even small things. If somebody has a very big ego, it's very easy to irritate him, or to agitate him, or to somehow rather uh get him become you know angry with you.
just put your toe on on his shadow. Every night his shadow is somehow rather offended you will not like it. So and that's that's exactly what is explained here because people become egoistic in nature of country.
And usually people become egoistic because the people on the upper edge alone of the society also become egoistic.
And this is the principle which is explained by Lord Krishna that That the common people follow the great people.
Contrast between righteous rule and political corruption
Whatever restors of the society, people who are in the position of being very important doing, common people So that's the reason.
And it is explained by Prabhupada that the very culture, which was the ideal culture for the society. Was this probably because of the description of the upper classes of the society?
And the first canto and so of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, there are descriptions of the pious country.
In the first canto of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, there is a description of India or Bhārata-varṣa under the rule of Mahārāja Parīkṣit. Varsha under the rule of Mahārāja. And it is said that everything was ideal.
That the Lord was provided whatever was necessary, nobody was hungry, nobody was diseased. The cows were so full of milk that the pasture grounds were watered by the milk of the cows.
The cows were the milk was in abundance, everything was ab inundance, the jewels, all the pearls, you know, bosom green, everything was perfect, you know, the rains will come at night, and the rains will only fall at night time, not at daytime.
Everything was second perfect. And that's an important point. Because we are living in a system where everyone is connected to each other. And if the ruler is right, and if the ruler
is taking care of their people in a proper way, proper explains here in the full court, if the ruler sees his main duty as to make sure that all his citizens are following their beautiful, they are done. Then everything becomes perfect.
Everything becomes very smoothly arranged and everything is goes on very nice. But when the ruler is considered, when the ruler has
the inflated full signal, that the ruler is trying to establish himself and his prime necessities of the people and is equals to them.
Basically, that's what we see as Prabhupāda says very frequently. You know, the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is actually explaining the standard of ideal society. Ideal society is a society where everyone is happy.
And ultimately this happiness only comes because of his consciousness, even in the material. As I said in the beginning, it is emphasized in this
beginning of the transcendental Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam again, I emphasize that the solution for all the problems which you have, whatever problem you take, whether it's a solution of the environment, whether it is a disease of people, some you know, coronary diseases and they have AIDS and so many other diseases, cancer.
You know, people are so proud nowadays.
People uh scientists say that we will you know we will take care of all the diseases like the beginning of the 20th century people were underlooping with the advance of the science, all the diseases could be finished.
And they did something with smallpox, but now smallpox is back again. But what is happening now, you know another disease is there. Cancer. More than 20% of the population died from cancer. Why?
Because the whole the whole society is just completely polluted, the whole environment is polluted, the food is polluted, and business is polluted because of science. Because of the thing we have done something.
Controlling ego by hearing Krishna-katha
And it's totally unnecessary that all situation in the world is completely artificial. Everything is so difficult that it's just unbelievable.
It's it's so obvious, it's a delusion, that you know, people start understanding this. How are they useful?
So what is explained to us again and again and again that the solution for all the problems is Kṛṣṇa consciousness, and the only way to get this consciousness is to hear about this.
You know, you cannot be conscious about this if you don't hear about this. And if you don't hear about Kṛṣṇa, then the nature of pride, the nature of evil will increase.
If you hear about Kṛṣṇa, how great Kṛṣṇa is, then your ego will be controlled. No, we have to think that we are very faithful. And if we are left alone, especially if we are in front of the mirror.
Our ego will be just growing and growing and growing, will be puffed up. And ordinary people, because they see everything from their own perspective and they really think I'm very important.
I have so much so much money, so much power. What is this power? What is this money? First of all, this money... I don't know, if you die, you just will, somehow or other, you'll die.
God knows what will be done with what you want to. But people, they become so proud because they forget about this. Prabhupāda told a nice story. A nice point.
And as you know, in the First Canto of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, there is a description of the material and spiritual world.
There is Mahā-Viṣṇu lying there, and the universes are coming out from the pores of His body, and then the spiritual world is there, these sweet waters of the Virajā and Black Waters is material world. And Prabhupāda started saying and started looking at this picture at the same time. This Mahā-Viṣṇu is so great that the whole span of material creation is
just the span of a breath, and creation... And He breathes out the material phase, and He's there, and He says, there is no material creation.
And He's sleeping, He's still sleeping, there's nothing to do with all these tragedies and all these wars and everything that is happening and everything comes to an end and starts again, and He's just sleeping and just, and that's it. There is no material.
And in all these universe, you know, Mahison comes as Garabac and lays down that there are so many planets in this universe, and so many different planets and huge planets are there.
Again, millions of planets are there, different 40 planetary systems are there. And then among all these planetary systems, there's one small little planet which is called Earth.
And this small tiny little planet called Earth, there are so many continents and countries and you know oceans. And among all these countries, there's one little country which is called America.
And in this America, there are so many cities, and there are so many citizens and there are so many different states and among this there's one city which is called Los Angeles. Because in Los Angeles.
And in Los Angeles, there are so many streets and there are so many houses and among And all the city there's one street which is called Venice Boulevard. And in this Venice Boulevard, there are 9 different houses.
And there's one house which is called this man. And in this house there are so many rooms and so many devoids are there. And in one room, Amogh Krishna was sitting and singing, I am very happy.
So basically when we are left on our own, when we are alone, we make the under illusion that uh that we are great, that we are very important, that there's something
very significant which is going on within our ears and because sometimes we see such a important thought I have. It's amazing. It's amazing. It's just insignificant.
And when we hear about Krishna, that's the way to become home. That's the only way to become home.
Role of false ego in world destruction
And this is the pride which actually destroys humanity.
It is described again in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam that the pride, the deity of false ego, Śaṅkara or Rudra, is the deity of false ego. And you know, Shiva is in charge of this cosmic creation.
So these two principles, the false ego or ahaṅkāra, And the principle of destruction or the activity of destruction in this material world are very closely connected.
And then the false symbol is inflated or when the pride is there, then all these things which is described so beautifully by Śrīla Prabhupāda is going on and everything is going to hell basically.
What is explained here in this verse of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is that mother earth came to Brahmā and she started crying and saying that because of his demonic activities, I degraded, practically degraded to the level of hellish planet, to the level of Rasātala.
The earth came to Brahmā and said, I'm supposed to be in the middle planetary system, of one of the planets of the middle planetary system, and I want to pertain or remain the status of middle-man system. But because of the demonic activities, I'm going down.
And that's, as Śrīla Prabhupāda is explaining, it's going on now. Has been going for thousands by thousands of years back, and this is the center of this curse, and it's exactly the same process is going on now.
All the countries are just you know creating weapons and weapons and weapons and new weapons and new weapons. And India is not an exception.
You know, coming from Russia and Russia is making a big ship for India and they are already over the ship because Russia wants to get more price from India and India doesn't want to give. But you know, it's not necessary.
All this money is stand waste for all these benefits. Because there are two countries in former Soviet Union, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
And they're warring over a tiny piece of land. You know, some tiny piece of land which is completely useless, which is in the mountains, in that quarrel. So Russia was trying to make it peaceful. And but it failed.
so we need this man. So after the peaceful uh talks failed
completely the head of one state Azerbaijan said, our military budget is five times more than the whole budget of this Armenian country and we will increase it even more until they surrender to us and give this tiny piece of land for us.
And this is this completely case. Completely case. Totally case.
Prabhupāda says 65% of the value of the country is spent for all this weapons. It's probably more than 60 weapons. It's probably nowadays, it's probably 80s, 90s.
All this money is accumulated is spent for this useless weapons. And you know, which ultimately only destroys menace.
And Śrīla Prabhupāda said that again the only solution from this menace, and menace is going to go. And it will go on more and more and more.
Now we think everything is bad. Ten years after now you will think it was so nice ten years back. You know, so many parts are there and people are suffering in the striking games. Just imagine what you would be in 10 years. It's just crazy.
Everything is crazy and the only thing which can stop this is not just money. And it's not unfortunately, it's not a necessary issue.
Degradation of modern society and spiritual solutions
Why I say unfortunately because we don't do anything to stop this madness, or probably do anything to stop this madness. But there's the only solution for this, there's not a solution.
Once I was traveling in Mumbai in a train and in the train you know Mumbai's trains are famous all over the world. It was checked.
And I saw the advertisement on the page and it was said that, you know, come to us and we will make abortion to you for just 100 rupees. Just pay 100 rupees, no problem. We will just kill your baby.
Yeah, it has become it has become so common. For other worst, and uh at that time I was absolutely money. Nothing is going to stop this the one civilization. The only hope is essentially problems.
As it is said that Maharaja Ambarīṣa is saying this in the beginning of this chapter, sa vai puṁsāṁ paro dharmo. Yato bhaktir adhokṣaje.
He said that this kṛṣṇa-guṇānuvarṇanam, bad if it is received through the disciplic succession,
kṛṣṇa-guṇānuvarṇanam, if the description of Kṛṣṇa is received through the description through the disciplic succession, anartha-paśamaṁ if it's coming from the chain of the disciplic succession, it has this potency of becoming the remedy or medicine
against the disease of this material existence, but also uh because it uh completely pacifies your thirst for material enjoyment. And the living example or the proof of this is Maharaja Ambarīṣa himself.
Maharaja Ambarīṣa himself he says that once I was thirsty and hungry and the soft and hunger became so horrid that I completely forgot myself
and I did a previous offense by putting the snake on the body of saintly persons. But he says now for seven days I haven't eaten anything. Only six days or five days. For seven days or five days I haven't slept.
For five days I haven't taken even one drop of water. And I am completely happy. Why? Because I am listening to the Ganga water, the Ganga stream which is coming from the Lord's mouth, the stories of our Krishna.
And the stories of our Krishna completely satisfied my thirst and my hunger. And therefore I'm happy and I'm satisfied and my ego is not bothering me.
At that time, a little thing, when somebody is unsatisfied, when somebody is unhappy, and somebody has some emotional problems, then little thing will bother you. Like the case of Maharaj Parikshit,
he asked for some water and there was no sense. And he became so angry. He couldn't control himself. But he says, now I'm just listening to you and I'm fine without water, without food, without sleep. Why?
Because if Krishna-katha is coming through the proper source, it can completely solve all the problems.
Finding soul satisfaction in Krishna-katha
Because ultimately all the problems have the spiritual origin. All the problems which we have and which humanity has is because of this insatiable thirst of the soul to become happy.
The soul wants to be happy, and this thirst of desire to be happy is unlimited. The soul is very small.
But desire which is there in the soul, because the soul is spiritual, the desire for happiness and the capacity to experience this happiness is unlimited.
And if I try to satisfy this thirst or this desire for happiness in the material realm where everything is limited, it's just useless. And the śāstras say that Bhūmā, that only the unlimited can satisfy the soul.
If happiness is limited, it can never satisfy the soul. And material happiness is always limited. You can only experience some limited happiness, if you are
in contact with the unlimited God, who is the source of unlimited happiness, of unlimited replenishment, unlimited ānanda.
So, and even if you are slightly going to be serious, Still you become much more satisfied than in all your material process of happiness. So many people are wandering all over the world trying to satisfy themselves
and then they come in contact, a slight contact with this peacefulness and they become much more peaceful.
I remember myself, I was so completely unhappy already, And I had everything, I had everything which one can imagine. And I was totally happy. And then I became a devotee and I lost every single.
I lost my career, I lost my job, I lost my, you know, I, you know, they wanted to put me in prison and some health, and I became so heavy, but my grandfather was going forward. So I was great.
And I said, I don't know why I was great. There is no material reason for this. But that's that's the fact. Sometimes we being in the morning forget about this.
And because we are not experiencing the full, uh, Krishna prayer or the full love of God, we still are not satisfied and we still doesn't work, the process doesn't work.
You know, if you don't believe that the process works, just get out of here and try to behave the opposite. It does work. But because our experience of Krishna is very limited, then that's still not satisfied.
But the fuller our experience of Krishna will become and the fullest distress will become. But to have the full experience of Krishna, we have to become humble. You know, again, if we take this nice angle that is there.
People because of the dissatisfaction, they are kind of satisfied by increasing their ego. Then the lady becomes satisfied. People think my English is beat.
If I have so many cars, you know, some people, I know the Russians in India, some people have 15 cars.
You know, there's one person there, and he has 15 cars. Why do you need 15 cars and drive them? Unless he becomes a mystic yogi and then you can drive him to 15 cars. I have 50 cars. So my ego is so big.
Cultivating humility to experience spiritual bliss
People are trying to, uh, increase their ego and increase their satisfaction. They say if my ego is big, I get satisfied. No way.
You can't be satisfied by increasing your ego. But if you decrease your ego, then you will have the experience of Krishna.
And actually, even the experience of Krishna bhakti, an experience of Krishna's holy name, you can have only if you're very small, tṛṇād api nicena, taror api sahiṣṇunā, amāninā mādanena.
Sometimes, seeing, you know, being in the holy, gosh, the Krishna consciousness is a solution, that hearing about Krishna is a solution, and they feel that it's a solution. But don't feel that is best. Why?
The answer is only one. Because they are proud. If the pride is not there, then the experience of Krishna katha, Hari katha, or Krishna's name will become much more deeper and profound.
This is the very important point of our philosophy: Caitanya Mahāprabhu says that we can only experience the full ecstasy of Krishna's holy name,
if you are more humble than the grass, if you are more tolerant than the tree, if you don't expect any respect for yourself,
and if you are ready to respect everyone else. If these four rules are followed, then we get a full experience. Then we will hear the katha non-stop and we will forget about the breakfast.
And nowadays, because one is too much involved in mundane activities, involved in the material world... I know it is, I gave lectures in America. America is complete full about, if you are, you know, busy all the time,
you will turn to us. Because people, you know, then don't understand. This is our main activity: to hear about Krishna, yet they get them here.
But why we don't get this taste of hearing about spiritual subjects? Only because that somebody will be speaking about us, we will be hearing it non-stop 24 hours a day.
If somebody will sit down and play five hours, you know, forget about breakfast, lunch, and dinner. No problem. We would say, just a bone and idiot. It's very pleasing. But because we don't understand who is Krishna,
and because, uh, and that's why, uh, we are not really experiencing this, um, uh, blissful state of having contact with Krishna. In direct contact with Krishna by hearing about him or by hearing his name.
Questions on Mother Earth and Brahma
So, but anyway, our practice is to become humble ourselves and to teach others so that they will get the full benefit of Krishna consciousness.
And that's what also Śrīla Prabhupāda explains. He says that the duty of any authority, excepting the guru, head of the state, or anyone who poses an authority: guru, preacher, temple commander,
or anyone who has some authority
in spiritual realization, is to teach people how to execute their duties and how ultimately to become Krishna conscious. And the signal of becoming Christian Moses is simple. Even in these days also, uh this kind of iron is not the Thank you.
And the second part is Rammah Sri Nanda, the earth uh the heart uh in the form of how she went to the anarcharot. But Krishna would have said that she did not go to the Saturo, the Anadra Brahmaji. I was very slow.
If you pass me one second, then here one leg here is a fast. He passed in 12 minutes and he had 12 years past.

So he could listen to the plea of Mother Earth. Yeah.
