Lord Shiva visits baby Krishna
Snakes all over his body came to the house of Nanda Mahārāja and Yaśodā was alone and he knocked there and Yaśodā opened the door and she saw the yogi and he said can I, have a little glimpse of your lala, of your little baby?
And she looked at him and she said, no way. She said my baby is too small. He will be very afraid of you.
Please forgive me, but you're so austere, you become so ugly and you know you covered all over your body with ashes. You know, please, you know, come back 20 years later.
Then my son will be grown up and I will I will give you darśana no problem, but not now, please. She was really afraid.
And he became very desperate and he came from Nanda down here on the bank of this lake and he started sitting and meditating about his misfortune.
I miss darśana of Krishna, I am not allowed, and he was cursing his snakes and his method here, this yoga, and this tapasya. He said, What is the use of this tapasya if I cannot see Krishna?
And in the meantime, Yaśodā was cursing herself. Uh a guest came to our house and I didn't feed him, I didn't uh invite him inside, I just drove him away and she was really morose about this.
And Krishna uh also became morose. And uh Yaśodā was trying to feed him, give him some uh kanās, some food or whatever, and Krishna said no I don't want to eat anything.
Nanda Maharaja searches for Shiva
So the whole atmosphere and then Nandagram and then Nanda Bhavan and his house became very gloomy. And Nanda Mahārāja came from his pasturing ground and he immediately felt that something is wrong.
And she said, what's going on? Everyone is so morose and everything everything is so heavy.
And she said, what's going on, you know, one yogi came, sādhu came and uh I was afraid that Krishna will have some childhood trauma by seeing him psychologically traumatized. So I I didn't let him uh in and none but I
said, You are wrong. You cannot do this with your guests.
Guests are kind of you should uh welcome them, you know, no matter what they are, you know, ultimately they will bless your baby and the baby especially if sadhu comes. So now probably this guest cursed us. We should search for him.
And he sent his people all over the place and finally they said yeah there is some yogi sitting uh here.
Few months back I was here and there was big yogi here sitting and he had four fires and four sides and fifth fire. Sun uh sun it was sun and it was really hot and it was sitting there so it's a bona fide yoga place for the basya.
Nanda Maharaja brings Krishna to Shiva
So they came and they told Nanda Mahārāja some yogis sitting there. Nanda Mahārāja took Kṛṣṇa and he came here with all his relatives and everything.
And Krishna saw this yogi and he became afraid and he started hiding away under the back of Nanda Mahārāja and his Dhoti and Nanda Mahārāja took him and said, bow down to him.
Kṛṣṇa paid his obeisances and again run back behind Nanda Mahārāja's back. And Nanda Mahārāja started begging forgiveness. Please forgive my wife. She's really foolish. She didn't welcome you properly. Please forgive her.
And uh she started crying. She said, It's my fault. I'm at fault, not she. Yeah, I know, you know, all the snakes and everything. So uh and uh Nanda Mahārāja said uh can you give us your uh blessings?
Shiva requests Krishna's food remnants
What what can we do so that you would forgive us. And she said, there is one thing you can do. I would like to have some remnants of the food which your baby uh will take. And Nanda Mahārāja became very assainted.
He said, no, no, no, we'll cook special feast for you. And very soon they procured a huge feast for Lord Śiva. And Shiva sat there and didn't touch anything. And Nanda Mahārāja asked, why you're not touching anything?
He said, I have a vow that I will only touch a food from your house if it's touched first or eaten first by your baby. And he said, no problem, so my baby can touch something.
And he uh called Kṛṣṇa and she would say no no no first you have to drive away all this pl And Kṛṣṇa should sit here and you can stay here and I'll stay and I'll see how he is and then I'll eat the remnants.
So Nanda Mahārāja drove everyone away and Kṛṣṇa ate something and then Lord Śiva ate the remnants of Lord Kṛṣṇa.
And he said now you have to promise that I'll stay here and every day you should bring the remnants of your son's food to this place and I believe. And this custom is still current here.
They bring Mahā-prasāda from Nandabaan every day to Lord Śiva and feed Lord Śiva with the remnants of Lord Kṛṣṇa.
History and significance of Ashakund
And that's why he said I will always be here unless until uh you feed me with the remnants of your son's food. So he is still sitting here.
And Krishna's grandfather, Parjanya Maharaj, he was doing austerity on the bank of Pavansa Rover, which is nearby and uh uh he was praying for good sons and in this way he obtained
five sons and Nanda Maharaj was one of them, Nanda Upananda, Dinanda, Sunanda and uh uh uh he would come here and would also uh pray here on the bank of this uh lake
so that uh his desires will be fulfilled there for this lake is called Ashakund. The kund of desire so it's uh little not very inviting at the moment but but still it can fulfill your desire.
So we can bow down towards Shiva with praying for Krishna Bhakti and Pasitha?
