Significance of Danda bhanga lila bhumi

Here, let me see this is called Actually, it does not really have a name here. Данда-бханга just means the breaking of the danda. We'll be first to go check on this danda. So

at least currently this is called danda-bhanga-līlā-bhūmi or this place where this līlā took place. We're breaking the road... śākhi-gopāla danda.

At the end of the twenty-fourth year of Lord Caitanya's pastimes in the winter Caitanya's a half weeks and years. During the month of March.

And then Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu left another group down and he crossed the Ganges and he went to Cuttack. Keśava Bhāratī was actually in a Māyāvādī line or sampradāya.

[Кешава Бхарати принадлежал к традиционному сампрадаю Маявади?] So indirectly, first, Nityānanda purified him and then he exacted from him the sannyāsa-mantra. Or at least the sannyāsa-mantra which my values

Then in Cuttack, Lord Śrī Caitanya wandered around. He actually wanted to go to Vṛndāvana. And for three days he was wandering around tricked him to go back to Shantipuri. And then I think they stayed there for two weeks.

Mother Saci's advice on Puri

All of the inhabitants of Navadvīpa came there to see Caitanya Mahāprabhu with Īśāna Kāhāri. Те жители Navadvīpa

Then there was an agreement by Lord Caitanya and his mother that instead of going to Vṛndāvana, which was very far away,

And because Jagannātha Purī was a very, even at that time, famous holy place. So, Śacīmātā would always get news of Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Agreed to come here.

And maybe that took another few weeks to get from Shantipuri all the way down here, which is about 500 kilometers away or miles away. Then Lord Caitanya came to Bhubaneswar where he met, where he saw Lord Shiva.

There is a method to enter into Jagannātha Purī and it must be done through Bhubaneswar. Just like on the way back to Puri, there is this little village and there's a baby there of Devi. Её называют Bhaṭṭa Maṅgalā.

And the customary tradition is that all of the children who would come, they would stay overnight there and gain her permission to continue on.

Visiting Saksi gopala and Bhrgu ashram

And then they would go to Jagannātha. И приходили на darśana Jagannātha. Now when the Caitanya Mahāprabhu was coming this way along the same path. The Caitanya Mahāprabhu was coming тем же путем.

This is the traditional road that everyone would come on.

Then he came here to see the deity of Sākṣī-gopāla Mahāprabhu. This is a very very old deity which was installed by Lord Rāmacandra. And it is spoken about in Rāmāyaṇa. time then we will go over there.

And first Caitanya Mahāprabhu came here because about 200 meters from here is also the ashram of Bhrṛgu muni. In fact, Yagya Sala is right where that river is flowing now. Just right here in this area.

То Caitanya Mahāprabhu stayed there in that temple overnight. And then early in the morning, which and this was four eighty nine years ago.

So, Lord Nityānanda, for different reasons, he took the danda, and he broke it into three pieces. And he threw it into that river. These are two rivers. That one, I do not know what the name of it was.

This is a branch of the Mahanadu, which is the biggest river in Orissa. And they joined just at the end of the island here and then the river is called Bargavi.

то Лойд Нитьянанда threw in the danda and the danda flowed down And then it came upstream. And right over here where we have our gut, there the danda went into the water.

Many people saw that because there were people here nearby. And so because the danda was broken here, that is why this place, the river is also now called the Dundabanga River.

Он был and he asked лояльно Нитьянанда, he says, where is this danda?

Historical evidence confirming the site

Then Lord Чайтанья fabricated some stories that it was broken. And with that Lord Чайтанья became very angry and then he left all of his associates and entered into Juggernaut Temple alone.

Now this place has been actually more or less a hidden place up until the last four years. Even amongst Vaishnavas, there was a controversy whether this was really the place where this lila took place.

In Caitanya-bhāgavata, Vṛndāvana dāsa Ṭhākura says that this līlā took place up in the Mahānadī River 200 kilometers. But that controversy is generally been resolved by Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura's commentary on Caitanya-bhāgavata.

Temple. And if Lord Caitanya was exhibiting a nara-līlā of human-like pastimes, then he would not have traveled 200 kilometers in one day.

The other is that there is no Kapāleśvara-mahādeva in that area. Kapāleśvara-mahādeva is right here, is one kilometer away, not even so far.

In addition to that, in Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Kavirāja Gosvāmī states that this is the place that līlā has. And just opposite on that river there is a deity who is called Danda Bangalgopinath.

So this deity was installed by Maharaj Pratapurudra. In commemoration or to celebrate this līlā, which was Lord Caitanya's first līlā in Orissa. Память об этой līlā, первой līlā Господа Caitanya Mahāprabhu.

Sacred rivers and spiritual practice

So taking all of these things into consideration, now devotees who even had believed that this līlā took place elsewhere, they are accepting more and more that it took place here.

So these two rivers are also very holy rivers. This other one is Yamunā and this one is the Gangā. Tārīkhe Yamunā. Это Gangā. And where they meet on the corner over there, that is like the Triveni.

So the whole nature of this līlā is described in Caitanya-caritāmṛta as parama-gambhīra. It is a very deep, a very mysterious pastime.

At any Caitanya se называет эту лилу parama-gambhīra, что значит очень таинственная, сокровенная līlā. And Kavirāja Gosvāmī says, there only those who have

But here this place is particularly meant for practicing spiritual life chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. Being very close to Puri, it is also accessible to devotees who are just there, very nearby.

You can see it's a very nice peaceful place, quiet place. Just one year ago there were no buildings here except for the little building in Но they both flow that way. They both flow in that direction.

The original the original person who realized the importance of this place was a Haridas Sen. It's like, который here понял значение этого места был Harīdāsa Sena. Кто is a descendant of Śivānanda Sena?

So he considered, and he actually then started to study the different quotes in Vaishnav Shaastra and Vedic literature about the significance of Dandabhanga. But he's a very, very learned sādhu.

So he found more than 300 references all throughout шастра to this place. And then he also looked into very, very ancient maps about the names which were used at that time.

And after a few years he did research, he confirmed that this was actually the actual site of this lila. So then the idea was that it should be developed in order to glorify this past time of Citta nihmaha kabhu?

So he first just acquired a little piece of land and built a little hub over there. And then later he gave that to ISKCON, and then we acquired more land and our plan is to construct a temple in that direction over there.

And yesterday we had one architect who was here. This would be ideal working out some plan as to what type of temple that could be. Does wife can't come to see her husband instead of saying that?

Extent of the Jagannatha Puri ksetra

Let's say, law for sannyāsa is that he should actually not return. That's why Caitanya didn't go back to Navadvīpa. This is, this is a holy dam in its own right.

But the entire area of Jagannātha Purī, or that kṣetra, it extends as far up as Bhubaneswar. Bhubaneswar is the beginning of that. So this is all considered to be also part of it.

And the same thing you get in Purī right, honoring mahā-prasāda.
